The Heart of PR

the process
When sketching my stamps, I knew I wanted to showcase different parts of Puerto Rican culture in order to create a story and educate people who may not really know what Puerto Ricans value. This is where I conducted my research.
This was my first draft of illustrations. However, after some critique, they seemed disjointed. I redesigned every stamp to match the illustration style of “el Dia de Reyes” since this is where I got the most positive feedback.
a slight derailment
Between my previous design and my final product, I started fresh entirely. I started thinking I wanted something more sophisticated and cohesive. After researching more about Puerto Rican culture, I found some cool figures that have enriched America in one way or another. I wanted to highlight them and their heritage, so I decided to do faceless portraits with a Puerto Rican flag behind it. While I believed it was as successful as I could’ve made them (since I am still refining my illustration skills), the entire mood of the happy and fun culture that I initially set out to portray was entirely gone. I finally went back to my original design and created something I am very happy with.
